I am author, artist, illustrator, filmmaker, and photographer, Merton Parrish. I am a devotee of Priapian Spirituality (Priapus), and have a special devotion to my fellow gay, bi and str8 m4m men. I have diverse interests and am enjoying the diversity here on Tribe. I live in the midwest with my male partner of eight years. I am 44 years young.

There have been deep words from "core-riors' about resurgence, about traditional/intuitive consciousness resurgence. Perhaps you could use input from an Onkwehonwe and a Lakota? ((This angle has been put together by a white red/black/cosmic mutt))

The resurgence of the intuitive ancient within us all. To decolonize your mind-set, to inspire your imagination beyond the pale of same old again. To activate our dared imagination and begin going into the "heavenish" (great spirit) you want.

How to respond with our intelligence, with our cruciaL ability, to severe alienation all around? Perhaps even to INTENSE alienation. How to intervene?

Of course you realize the value.

Do we intervene in the ways we have been conditioned? In the ways we have been encouraged by war-mind cult-ure? Or do we experiment with and add on to what others have been creating?

There are many ways, up to our imaginations, to respond. Some of you may realize the value of "arting yourself" --in order to "get in touch with" designing our lives so that we activate the "heavenish" we'd like to see on mOm eArtH

If this interests you, then challenge your imagination. Go into your fears. Explore, take chances, experiment, make mistakes.

We are *all* descendants of tribes. We have been reduced into all of these identities and beliefs that others have ordered us to uncritically accept. We can wake up to our power to accept or not accept, or find grey areas in between. We can wake up to our power to envision and become, not allowing any political correct conception, or other colonized chain-of-command way of being and seeing to artificially hold us back.

You may wish to respect others, good. What of *radically respecting* by able-ing your heart, your great spirit, your connections to mOm eArtH, your wisdom, your deep seeing (i.e. reaching through the pain to the heart of alienated, flailing folks), your living high on life?!

The Life of an Image

Images are more than meets the eye.

As consumer marketing players know well, images are tools of connection.
In the world of products and consumers, this connection is used by those profiting to build momentum for things they want so sell us.
It’s too bad that we don’t get to know about how most of the stuff that we take into our lives (and even our bodies!) was made-
usually because we’re consuming so many of these products every day that there’s no way we could keep track of it all.
The thing is, the companies that are making the stuff we’re buying
usually don’t want us to know how they were made because
we might not buy them if we did.
One key advantage that corporations have over consumers is that, because we only react to the circumstances of the society we find ourselves in, we don’t realize how different this way of living is from everything our species has ever known. . . our bodies (that are still very biologically rooted to naturally connected circumstances) are so confused!
How are we supposed to connect with our own life cycle when we’re not connected to the life cycles of the things we’re made of and surround ourselves by?
So, we try to feed ourselves with lots of things to try and numb our confusion- products and conveniences that we first thought would improve the quality of our lives but have since replaced our sense of worth, and are now causing us all to suffer the consequences of over-consumption.
Thankfully, the wisdom of our ancestors, who healed by cultivating their connection to the creative instinct, is still deeply rooted in us.
This instinct, from which our physical bodies were borne and will one day return, carries the potent healing powers of natural cycles - medicine that reaches down to the root of our imbalance and gently but powerfully nurtures the particular growth that each of us needs.
The healing that my creative practice has offered me has been fun, free and has produced playful side-effects (also called art)!

What is once old is now considered new....

I have been remembering my "Native"roots feverently this last couple of years and I find that
the more further back you into traditional creativity the more it becomes,how should put this?,meditative,Zen and Universal it becomes..for example beadwork-with a needle and tread to apply teeny tiny beads...I never realised how this would effect my mind and spirit...
I always strive to maintain a life that is Earth honouring here in the metropolitan village...my prayer is just that..I decided to learn the peyote stitch-traditional beadwork(there's many different kinds of beadwork)because I found the I wanted/needed some beadwork for something of mine and I was hard pressed to find someone who "kept this Medicine"...It has transformed an aspect of me that I do not fully understand yet-it is still a work in progress..artfully done and hopfully in a traditional way,the beads themselves should and do make a statement about the person who they belong to...I know of other types of creativity that Native people do and all if it is a meditative healing process...patience and selflessness it what it is teaching me....please check out my page to see a work in progress with teeny tiny beads..any insights?stories?

Virgin Mary concentration

Currently I am doing a Virgin Mary concentration involving the Virgin Mary (no kidding) in contemporary "needy" scenes. I have a few ideas but need to do 15 different works so I am feeling a bit drained of inspiration.

Anyway, the Virgin Mary means a lot to me, for yes I am Catholic and I love religious art (of all religions).

I was curious as to what diety, if any, you all were most interested in in art, or what diety you portray in your own art as well.

And if not a diety, what to you symbolizes your spirituality, and how is art to you a spirituality of its own?

Hopefully we could have some actual discussions in this tribe. Eh?

+ I am a one with all, and I use the illusion of separation so I may understand more possibilities. I am an observer of the observer, observing all things in ALL-ways so I may gently notice what is and what isn't in alignment with my being and gently guide my thoughts, actions and being back into alignment with spirit. Which is my highest thoughts. The thoughts that fall instead of rise. The thoughts that always renew myself to the next grandest idea I ever had about myself in every moment. I am aligned more and more now with my highest thoughts and my power of creation has been astounding. I am my art my art is me, you are my art my art is you, for there is no difference outside the illusion anyways. With this being in my life's mission, to communicate through any given medium re-minders which assisted me in awakening. This is my spiriartisan in a nutshell. i don't know about what everbody else thinks of when you see the Art as Spirituality title, but for me it simply means when i am overwhelmed with fustration, anger, love bursts,excitement, any feeling that makes you want to explode, i put the energy into the paint, onto the canvas, it steers the scissors, and tears the page.
It a positive way of calming me and making me proud of something i have made, and i myself rarely even share my art, poetry, whatever just because they are so personal....they are for me mostly, not looking for fame or praise, just a place for my heart to go:)

My everything is what is translated through filters of senses, feelings, idealisms..something seems to charge my will to keep shifting through all the stimuli i am bombarded with on a daily basis...my life and/or art is my spirituality...inner and outer visions my personal gospel...It seems the ever changing path to whatever salvation i am attracted to lies in the devotion it takes to recognize my creativity on its own terms...The devotion to share a somewhat blind love to something that does not nor should not ever completely actualize in a final form..To create is to feel and feeling is the road to love...
